Austrian Information on Gene Technology
According to Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol the BCH is an instrument for the exchange of information relevant for the implementation of the protocol.
Compiled information on gene technology (e.g. authorities, information regarding products authorised in the EU) can be found at the homepage of the Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria).

Cartagena Protocol
The Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity is an international agreement. It aims to ensure the safe handling, transport and use of genetically modified organisms (GMO). In the terminology of the Protocol GMOs are denoted as “living modified organisms (LMOs)”. The Cartagena Protocol entered into force on 11 September 2003.

According to Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol the BCH is an instrument for the exchange of information relevant for the implementation of the protocol.
Scientific, technical, environmental and legal information on, as well as experience with GMOs should be made available to all Parties of the Protocol and the public. This includes e.g. risk assessment information or data on GMO authorisations.
The BCH contains information provided by all Parties in a standardised, searchable form. In addition the national reports can be found herein. In these reports the parties regularly provide information regarding the national implementation of the Cartagena Protocol.
