National Reference Laboratory for Air Quality
The calibration laboratory of the Environment Agency Austria, Department for Air Pollution Control, Buildings & Registries has been acting as National EU Reference Laboratory for Ambient Air Quality since the coming into force of the Austrian Ambient Air Quality Protection Act in 2000. It is accredited as calibration laboratory according to EN ISO/IEC 17025.
The calibration methods and standards used in our laboratory are verified by international comparisons on a regular basis. Participation in worldwide inter laboratory exercises guarantees competence and is an integral part of our quality policy.
As National EU Reference Laboratory for Ambient Air Quality we ensure traceability of measurement results throughout Austria to national and international standards for air pollutants. We hold the standards for ozone, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, benzene and volatile organic hydrocarbons (VOC) as well as for volume flow. For sampling and continuous monitoring of PM fractions, we provide the calibration of volume flow as well as comparison against instrument-specific references for optical and radiometric PM instruments.
As National EU Reference Laboratory for Ambient Air Quality, we are responsible for coordinating quality assurance and quality control measures at national level. A proficiency testing facility for gaseous air pollutants is available for up to12 participants.
