National Etalon for O3, NO, CO und SO2

Calibration at the highest level

In September 2009, the Austrian Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV, Bundesamt für Eich- und Vermessungswesen) nominated the calibration laboratory of the Department of Air Pollution Control, Buildings & Registries of the Environment Agency Austria as designated laboratory to hold the national etalon for ozone in ambient air.

In April 2013, the Austrian  Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) extended the designation to include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide.

Therefore, the calibration laboratory of the Environment Agency Austria - as a designated institute - is part of Austria’s national metrology system according to the Austrian Metrology Act (Maß- und Eichgesetz) and internationally recognised.

Successful participation in international key comparison exercises and collaboration with technical committees ensure that the national standards of our calibration laboratory are acknowledged as having the highest metrological qualities for O3, NO, CO and SO2 in Austria.

The calibration capabilities of Austria‘s etalons are accessible via the CMC database (Calibration and Measurement Capability) of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). The CIPM-MRA logo on the calibration certificates indicates that the calibration results are acknowledged worldwide.
