Ecosystems
Samples of soil, leaf litter, leaves and needles are collected in the Environment Specimen Bank.
These ecosystem samples were collected in the Integrated Monitoring (ICP IM) at the Zöbelboden monitoring station in the National Park Kalkalpen in the Alps. The samples date from 1992 to the present.

Plant samples
The plant samples are collected in a forest dominated by spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and in a natural mixed beech forest (Fagus sylvatica L.) with maple (Acer pseudoplatanusL.), ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and spruce.
- Leaves (beech)
- Needles (spruce)
- Leaf litter
Additionally, samples of 43 vascular plant species collected in 2005 are available.
Soil samples
The soil samples correspond to typical soils of the Northern Kalkalpen (Alps) such as shallow rendzinas, deep brown loams and transitions to pseudogleys. The samples are divided into humus or mineral soil, fine soil, residual roots and residual stones.
