Nepal is one of the countries with the worst air quality. The Nepalese Ministry of Population and Environment wanted to change that and enlisted the support of the Umweltbundesamt - Environment Agency Austria.
Together with their Nepalese colleagues Umweltbundesamt experts are carrying out a needs assessment for comprehensive monitoring. Building on the results of the needs assessment, a design for an air quality monitoring network will be developed over the next five months. Additionally, the Environment Agency experts will develop recommendations on how the monitoring network, pollutant analysis, data management and the legal framework will have to be adapted to local conditions so that air quality monitoring will be possible and long-term improvements can be achieved.
