Short description

The EU-project Environment Partnership Programme for Accession (EPPA) seeks to implement EU environmental acquis in the Western Balkans and Turkey. Particularly, it focuses on areas relevant for addressing transboundary environmental issues. Moreover, the regional cooperation between the project partners shall be strengthened. The main beneficiaries of the project are ministries in charge of environment policy, as well as other bodies and institutions such as environment and other agencies. Experts of the Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria) provide a basis for decision making at local, regional, European and international levels.

Services provided:

  • Preparation of relevant technical documents
  • Component 4 "Capacity Building for alignment with the EU acquis
  • Organisation of regional conferences on environmental priorities as envisaged by the 7th Environmental Action Plan (EAP) 
  • Identification of marine protected areas and exchange of best practices to achieve and/or to maintain the good ecological status of marine waters and preserve biodiversity
  • Study on illegal logging and timber trade flows in and between the beneficiaries, the EU, and globally
  • Study on administrative and legislative aspects related to forest management and related mechanisms to ensure legality and traceability of timber and mapping of relevant stakeholders
  • Assistance for the exchange of information and best practices between the beneficiaries and and the EU
  • Assistance for the implementation of the Barcelona Convention through the preparation of relevant technical presentations at two sub-regional workshops
  • Environmental Information Progress Monitoring
