Short description

The TRATOLOW project aims to lower emissions and to establish a climate resilient economy in the Western Balkans and in Turkey. The European Commission/Directorate-General for Climate Action supports the countries in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Top priority lies on capacity building in order to implement the 2015 Paris Agreement and to develop a climate neutral economy, as well as to strengthen regional cooperation. Through TRATOLOW, the countries will benefit from the experience of EU member states. By promoting transnational exchange of information, further positive synergies for climate protection are to be expected.

TRATOLOW is funded by the European Commission and provides the relevant authorities as well as stakeholders with a network of experts, led by Umweltbundesamt – the Environment Agency Austria and supported by the project partner NIRAS, for a period of three years since October 2020.

Services provided:

•       Development and implementation of regional policies and strategies to align with low emissions pathways, particularly towards the mid-century.

•       Upgrading of domestic GHG monitoring, reporting and verification practices towards compliance with the Paris Agreement as well as the EU monitoring Mechanism Regulation/ EU Governance Regulation

•       Strengthened monitoring, EU ETS reporting, accreditation and verification (MRAV) of requirements targeted at operators, authorities and verifiers, and CSOs under the EU ETS

•       Compliance checks of selected legislative acts
