In its report on Austria’s Annual Air Emission Inventory 1990–2009 the Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria) presents trends for those air pollutants for which the NEC Directive stipulates National Emission Ceilings (NECs) for 2010.
For the period between 2008 and 2009, the results of the Austrian Air Emission Inventory show an 8.3% decrease for sulphur dioxide (SO2). Nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) also decreased considerably during the same period (8.8%). Non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) decreased by 18.2% between 2008 and 2009, whereas ammonia emissions (NH3) increased by 1.3.
A comparison with the national emission ceilings for 2010 shows that SO2, NMVOC und NH3 are already below these ceilings, whereas NOx emissions are still considerably above them.
